IIA - J&K Chapter organized Seminar on "World Environment Day" with focus on Making Smart Cities on 5th June ‘ 2022 at K.C. Orchid, Jammu. The event focused on a very critical issue being faced in every corner of the world i.e. How to save our ENVIRONMENT? World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world. Truly transformative options towards sustainability need to be available, affordable and attractive for people to make better daily decisions. ... Key areas for transformation does not only limit to how we build and live but also includes other domains of energy, production systems, global trade and transport systems, and protection of biodiversity. By supporting World Environment Day 2022 and the "Only One Earth" campaign, we can help ensure this unique and beautiful planet to remain a comfortable home for humanity. The program started by welcoming Chief Guest, Ramesh Kumar, IAS (Divisional Commissioner, Jammu), Hitesh Gupta, Additional CEO, Jammu Smart City Ltd as Guest of Honour, Rahul Sahai, Chairman PHDCCI-Jammu and Kuldeep Gupta, Co-Chair PHDCCI-Jammu. Ar. Jit Kumar Gupta, former advisor, Punjab Urban Development Authority and Prof. (Dr.) Virendra Kumar Paul, Head Deptt. of Building Engineering and Management, SPA-Delhi delivered keynote speech and gave insight on the Making of Smart Cities with a concept of sustainable approach. They pondered over the smart sustainable city with an innovative approach that uses ICTs and other means to improve quality of life, efficiency of urban operation and services, and competitiveness, while ensuring that it meets the needs of present and future generations with respect to economic, social, environmental as well as cultural aspects. The J&K Architects Directory of IIA J&K Chapter was also launched by the Chief Guest during the event. The Chief Guest in his address stressed upon making of Smart Cities with a sustainable approach. He talked about planned colonies and master plan of Jammu as well. He also insisted upon the use of renewable energy sources in building construction by the Architect fraternity. Since economy of Jammu and Kashmir is based on bio-diversity; the need for environment protection is of prime importance. He talked about sustainable ways of designing and constructing buildings in cities and around and assured Govt support in this regard. He said "Green buildings must be promoted to a larger scale to save energy for future generations". He also assured assistance to IIA J&K Chapter to collaborate for the holistic sustainable growth in the UT of J&K. Ar. Vikas Dubey, Chairman IIA J&K Chapter along with the executive body congratulated and thanked the Architect fraternity and others for supporting the event with a hope of organizing such events on larger scale in future.
